Honored. Humbled. Grateful.
These three words capture the incredible emotions I felt when I was named the Best Male Poet and Best Male Motivational Speaker at the 2024 IHA Awards. Winning these titles is not just an achievement; it's a testament to a journey fueled by passion, dedication, and community support.
The Journey Begins
First and foremost, I want to say THANK GOD. 🙌🏾 My journey has not been simple. It has been filled with faith, determination, and a deep belief that every dream is worth pursuing.
Looking back, I remember jotting down my first lines of poetry in my room and the exhilarating feeling of sharing my words on stage. For instance, back in 2020, I performed at a local café with only ten attendees. Fast forward to today, I am honored to stand before larger audiences, including the 200+ people at the IHA Awards. Each experience has taught me resilience and reminded me that every setback is an opportunity for growth.
A Community of Support
This victory is not only mine; it belongs to everyone who has supported me along the way. Your love and encouragement have fueled my passion daily.
I recall many late nights spent perfecting my craft, where words sometimes felt heavy and inspiration was hard to find. Yet, a simple message from a friend would pop up at just the right time, reminding me to keep chasing my dreams. For example, one of my supporters reached out to say that my poem had helped them through a tough time. Moments like that drive me to keep striving for excellence.
Honoring Lost Loved Ones
I must take a moment to acknowledge my mother, Johnnie-Mae. 🕊️ This victory is for you. #RIH #GoneButNeverForgotten—I hope to make you proud.
The path of an artist is often shaped by personal relationships. My mother was my greatest cheerleader, always encouraging me to pursue my dreams. Each time I step on stage or write a new verse, I feel her presence. She is a vital part of my story, motivating me to honor her memory by pushing through obstacles.
Gratitude for the Event
A heartfelt thank you goes out to Jazz J Paul Mosley of CTC United, along with everyone who made the IHA Awards possible. This event provided a platform for dreamers and creators like me to shine.
The energy at the awards was electric. I met so many talented individuals from various creative fields, each with their stories of hard work and perseverance. For example, I spoke with the legendary Prince Rahiem. After I told him how much I was a fan of his, he told me he was a fan of mine!! These discussions not only inspired me but reaffirmed the idea that determination pays off.
The Power of Faith and Belief
To anyone chasing a dream: Keep pushing. Keep believing. Never let fear overpower your faith. 🔥 #NeverQuitOnYourDreams 🔥
This mantra has guided me throughout my journey. There were moments of doubt when I questioned if I was on the right path. However, these low points reminded me of my achievements and those who believed in me.
I encourage everyone to keep their faith strong. Surround yourself with positive influences, and do not hesitate to tell your story. Vulnerability has immense power, and your experiences may inspire someone else.
Moving Forward
As I celebrate this recognition, I look forward to the future. There is still much work to do, and my ambition is growing. I want to connect with larger audiences, share more uplifting messages, and inspire change through my art.
